Eastend

1. Voulez-Vous Cafe / 2. Ashbridge Estate / 3. Leslieville mural / 4. Ed's Real Scoop - French mint ice cream cone / 5. Ed's Real Scoop - gelato selection

It goes without saying that I've been gone from this blog for a while and this post has been sitting in the queue this whole time. It's hard to believe how fast time has flown by. Here's a little taste of summer as we move into Christmas and I expect that you'll be seeing a couple of proper blog posts from me in the next few weeks.

Rakia Bar Review

Rakia Bar has taken over the space that formerly housed the Red Rocket Cafe. The industrial decor of exposed brick and piping remain but are now softened by prominent wood paneling and relaxed lounge seating. Although the new occupant does serve Julius Meinl coffee, the star of the show - as their name suggests - is the rakia. Popular in Eastern Europe, rakia is a fruit brandy commonly made with plum or grape although many other fruits can be used including raspberry, apple, and juniper.

Instagram Update: Take Four

1. Ruffles? Check. The palest of pinks? Check. Feeling totally girly? You betcha!
2. How adorable is this mural?
3. I had the pleasure of attending an advance Toronto screening of "Red Lights" that included a Q&A session with director Rodrigo Cortés (so charming and funny) and lead actor, Cillian Murphy (more reserved but still oh so swoon-worthy).
4. Foliage galore! It truly makes a a quick detour through the university campus feel much more enchanting.

Mugler Resort 2013 Lookbook: Kabuki Kiss

Photographed by Frederick Heyman ; Images courtesy of Mugler via Fashion Gone Rogue

Haute Couture week in Paris is just about wrapping up but I recently came across Mugler's latest resort collection and thought I would share it. The recent collections from Mugler (helmed by Nicola Formichetti and Sébastien Peigné) have been hit and miss for me. However, I think this is the most cohesive and wearable collection yet. I love the streamlined silhouettes punctuated by sculptural elements and the colour palate is surprisingly classic but effective.

Downtown Stroll

Some random shots from the same day that I visited Khao San Road:
1. Mural
2-3. Parking lot graffiti
4. Potentially the best bicycle bell ever; all it needs now is to be paired up with Juno's hamburger phone.
5. The snack section of the bookstore - that toffee brittle bar looks enticing, doesn't it?
6. Toronto's St. Andrew's Church (Credit goes out to my friend S for taking this shot.)
7. Evening stroll: I love how the two of them are walking in sync. (And of course, I also adore her sweet boho dress.  I actually asked for a streetstyle shot from S here and I got more of the background than the outfits. -_-)

Khao San Road

1. Khao San Road's neon sign; the only thing that will help you identify the restaurant if you've never been before
2. Minimal seating for those waiting outside
3. A peek into the restaurant from the outside
4. The window into the kitchen where all the magic happens
5. Cha Nom Yen: Thai iced tea
6. Po Pia Pak Sod Gai Yaw: Fresh rolls with tamarind sauce
7. Khao Soi with braised beef
8. Sam Roas: Chef's special pad thai

Instagram-ed

I recently switched over to a smartphone and I've been taking more snapshots on my phone than my camera so here's a glimpse at what I've been up to.

1-2. Crepes a GoGo is my favourite place to get crepes in the city. The Madame crepe contains delicious smoked salmon, cream cheese, dill and threads of red onion - the perfect combination.
3. The sweetest and friendliest dog
4. Mint chocolate chip from Greg's Ice Cream
5. Sweets and snacks
6. Blooming flowers
7. Old fashioned architecture versus modern skyscrapers
8. Interesting combination of fire and water (It's hard to see but there's a flame atop of there.)

Assorted Randoms

It feels like all I've been doing these past few days is packing, cleaning, unpacking and doing more cleaning. And I suppose that cleaning mentality has extended to my hard drive. I found some old pictures that I thought I would share.

1. The ceiling doesn't get nearly as much attention as I think it should
2. I don't recall the popcorn being all that awesome but I do like the clean aesthetic of this ad.
3. I went back to one of my favourite movie theatres and found that the Indiana Jones pinball machine had been replaced. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
4. No hot chocolate is complete without marshmallows
5. I love the detailing on this new blouse.
